MITAA has the pleasure of honouring Mr. R. Velusamy, President – Automotive Business, Managing Director of Mahindra Electric Automobile Limited’s Member of Group Executive Board, Mahindra’s Mahindra Ltd, a 44th  batch Alumnus of Automobile Engineering as Outstanding Alumnus for the year 2026.

Hailing from a humble farming family in Namakkal, Mr. Velusamy’s journey is a powerful testament to perseverance, curiosity, and purpose reflecting the true spirit of MIT.

After completing his B.Sc from University of Madras, Velusamy joined MIT in 1992 and graduated in1995. He joined Mahindra & Mahindra in 1996 as Junior Engineer in Power train division. Over a distinguished career spanning more than three decades at Mahindra C Mahindra, he has played a defining role in shaping the company’s automotive journey-from building strong engineering foundations to leading the transformation in to a future-ready mobility enterprise.

He has been instrumental in the development of iconic vehicles including the Mahindra’s Electric Origin SUV portfolio-XEV 9e, BE 6 C XEV 9S setting new bench marks in technology, design, and safety. Under his leadership, Mahindra has undergone a remarkable transformation, from a rugged and utilitarian brand to one that is technologically advanced, design – led, and globally competitive, redefining its position in the automotive landscape.

Today, as President – Automotive Business, he leads the end – to – end automotive division with full P & L responsibility, drivings trategy, product portfolio, manufacturing excellence and global market expansion across passenger and light commercial vehicles.

Mr. Velusamy has further strengthened his global perspective through executive education at premier institutions like The Michigan Ross School of Business & The Wharton School of Business, including the prestigious Advanced Management Program (AMP) at Harvard Business School enabling his transition from a product and Engineering leader to a Business leader with a global outlook.

In addition, he holds multiple leadership roles across Mahindra & Mahindra Group companies, serving as Chairman of the Board at Mahindra Racing UK and as a Board Director at PF Holdings B.V.

He also actively contributes to industry advancement through key leadership roles, serving as Chair of the SIAM Passenger Car CEO Council, President of the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) Governing Council, a Member of the Governing Board of the Centre for Advanced Automotive Research (CAAR).

Beyond his professional achievements, he remains deeply connected to his alma mater. He has donated many Mahindra vehicles, more than10+engines, sponsored Bosch INCA tools with open ECU systems, sponsored AVL Cruise Simulation software to MIT so that students can have hands on study on the latest technologies.

He helps the MIT students in internship and placement. He has recently donated the state-of-the-art latest electric Origin vehicles BE6 and XEV9e worth 60 lakhs for MIT students to learn practically the advancement in sustainable mobility.

His wife Mrs. Suguna Devi is a great homemaker. They have two lovely children. Daughter Abinaya has finished her MBBS and plans to pursue her Post graduation. Son Aris is doing his 12th standard.

MITAA has the pleasure of honoring Dr. Elamvazhuthi Pannir Selvam, 36^th batch Alumnus of Electronics Engineering as Outstanding Alumnus for the year 2025.

After completing his B.Sc from Periyar Arts College, Cuddalore he joined MIT in 1984.   Graduating from MIT in 1987, Dr. Elamvazhuthi Pannir Selvam joined Indian Navy and served for more than two decades at Indian Navy & DRDO holding different roles. He spent the next 10 years in CTS, Delphi, TCS, handling different projects & portfolios. Since 2019, he is the Principal Engineering Fellow & Radar Consultant at Veoneer & Magna.

During his distinguished career of 37 years (and counting) Dr. Pannir Selvam pursued his M.Tech from IIT-Delhi in 1993 and did his Ph.D from IIT – Bombay in 2014. Along with these, he also completed numerous Management Courses – Project Management, Six Sigma, Talent Management, Functional Safety just to name a few. He completed many other courses – Drona, Robotix, AI&ES are some of them.

Accolades to Dr. Pannir Selvam include NASSCOM Excellence Award, TCS Technova, Director Naval R&D Rolling Trophy in 1989, just within 2 years of his professional career.

Dr. Pannir Selvam holds several patents in his name and also innumerable Publications to his credit. His global experience includes attending, conducting and chairing technical sessions, workshops in many countries including the UK, USA, Germany, Switzerland, Japan and China.

Dr. Pannir Selvam also conducted Knowledge Imparting sessions in various Engineering Colleges across India including his alma mater Madras Institute of Technology.

As an expert Radar Consultant Dr. Pannir Selvam had undertaken many projects in this domain. Link Budget Analysis of an external Radar, Automotive Radar target simulator, Electronic scanning Radar 2.5, short range Radar 1,2, 3 & 4 are some of his more than 25 prestigious projects that he completed for clients in India and overseas.

Not only a project expert, Dr. Pannir Selvam is a good teacher proving his mettle not only during his stint in Indian Navy but also later in his career. His contribution as an academician made him to be an Expert Member in the Board of Studies at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore and Defence Institute of Advanced Studies, Pune.

His wife P Sivajothi, a successful homemaker, is the pillar of strength for his professional journey and family. While he was patrolling the Inidan oceans, she was surfing the homefront swirls very effectively and raised two sweet daughters beautifully.

His elder daughter PS Yazhini selvi is a linguist fluent in many languages. A good singer she hasparticipated in many TV programs. Her husband Vignesh Ram is a Cyber Security Manager with KPMG.

His younger daughter PS Sindhana Selvi is Chemistry Doctorate scholar and doing her Postdoc from University of California, San Diego. Her husband Shubham Sinha is doing his Postdoc from Itlay in Mathematics.

Madras Institute of Technology, Chromepet Campus of Anna University, a unique Educational Institution was started in 1949 by Sri. C. Rajam to impart education on unconventional engineering courses like Aeronautical, Automobile, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering streams. During the birth centenary year of this great visionary Sri Rajam in 1982, MIT Alumni Association (MITAA) instituted an annual Endowment Lecture and also honoring an Outstanding Alumnus in Sri Rajam’s Memory.

MITAA has the pleasure of honouring Mr. N. Ramachandran of Electronics faculty, an alumnus from the 21st batch, with Outstanding Alumnus Award for year 2024.

He did his B.Sc from Coimbatore. He is a 1972 Electronics graduate from the Madras Institute of Technology, Chennai. He has done Management education from the IIFT School of International Management and the Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi University. He has also undergone a Management Development Program in International Trade Center, Geneva and attended the Duke of Edinburg Program for Future Leaders in Australia.

He has more than 50 years of experience in the Electronics Industry in varied capacities. He is now the Managing Director of MEL Systems and Services Ltd, a company engaged in Automation and Control, Defense Electronics and Automatic Test Equipment.

He has varied interests and is involved closely with the Alumni Associations of MIT and IIFT. He was a member of the Board of Governors of MIT. He spearheaded AMITA TRUST foundation which has a corpus of 5 crores plus today for the benefit of MIT students He is very active in CII, ELCINA etc. He was the past President of ELCINA, Past Chairman of the Indo American Chamber of Commerce, TN and is a member of the National Council of IACC. He is an active Rotarian.

Mr. N. Ramachandran is the recipient of many awards including the Outstanding Alumnus Award from IIFT, Distinguished Alumnus Award from Anna University, Outstanding Rotary President of the year Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award in Electronics from EFY magazine and the Electronics Maker magazine. He is also the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award in Electronics from ELCINA.

He has successfully organized, as the Chairman of the organizing committee, two mega events- Source India, Chennai and Strategic Electronics Summit, Bengaluru. He has always been the champion of “Make in India” and mentors lot of young entrepreneurs.

He highly values the unwavering support and love that his wife Kala, has always bestowed upon him for his tremendous growth and success. He has highly accomplished twin children, Rahul who works for NVidea in the U.S. and Dipika who is an alumna of MIT Madras, works for Amazon in Bengaluru. His daughter in law Dr Mansa works for Lam Reasearch in the US and his son in law Ranjith is a software specialist and is a Senior Manager at Amazon in Bengaluru. Rahul is blessed with a set of twins and Dipika has a daughter, an one year old bundle of joy.

During the centenary birth year of the Founder Sri C. Rajam in 1982, MITAA instituted the scheme of presenting the annual endowment lecture and an award for the Outstanding Alumnus in his memory. MITAA has the pleasure of honouring Mr. D. Ravichandran, an alumnus from the 26th batch of Instrumentation Technology, with the Outstanding Alumnus Award of the year 2023.

Mr. D. Ravichandran did his B.Sc in Physics from St. Josephs College in 1974 and got his DMIT (Instrumentation) from MIT in 1977. He hails from Trichy.

He started his career with BHEL Hyderabad and was there for 16 years handling Power Plant Projects in the Project Engineering Dept. as Head of Instrumentation & Control. He executed Gas Turbine Power Plant Control & Automation. For the next 15 years, he was with Invensys Control (Foxboro), Singapore, as a Senior Project Manager, handling Asia Pacific Power Plant Projects.

Next 3 years he worked with Fichtner India as G.M- Projects handling Power and Infrastructure Projects. He was the M.D of IMEC Engineering Pvt. Ltd Chennai till 2014, executed 2nos of 5 MW Solar Power Plants in Telangana.

From 2014, he is into Specialist Consultancy for Power Plant clients in automation area. During his career, he has managed many automation projects across the globe for clients in USA, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Hongkong, Japan, Australia, Middle East, UK, and India.

He is a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) from Project Management Institute, USA. He is also a MBTI Accreditor (for conducting personality analysis in Leadership Development Programs).

He is one of the founding Patrons of Singapore MIT Alumni Chapter (SMITAA) and he was the president of SMITAA from 1999 – 2002. Under his leadership, the activities of SMITAA have grown into a full-fledged chapter having various activities like scholarship program for MIT students, family get togethers, hosting elite personalities from MIT, periodic publishing of SMITAAZINE magazine etc.

He is a serious practitioner of Simplified Kundalini Yoga (SKY). He and his wife are teachers of SKY meditations of Vedathri Maharishi Guru (Vaazhga Valamudan). His only daughter is in USA with her family.

Mr. R. BALAJI  of Instrumentation Technology faculty, an alumnus from the 15 ^thbatch with Outstanding Alumnus Award  for his yeomen service.

Mr. Balaji did his B.Sc in Physics from Loyola College in 1962 and got his DMIT (Instrumentation ) from MIT in 1966. He hails from Terazhundur near Mayiladuthurai. 

He started his career in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre , Bombay under the guidance of 1^st Batch MITian Dr.M.V.R.K.Murty  for close to 4 years.  For the next 9 years he was with Hawkins Pressure Cookers and Appliances developing medical optical instruments.  He was very active in getting the Bombay Chapter of MITAA formed in 1968 and fully involved till he moved out of Bombay.

Keen to start a venture of his own, he established his own manufacturing unit, Industrial Ancillaries in 1978, specializing in the design, manufacture and supply of primary flow elements. IA was nurtured into a reliable source of supply and gained reputation in servicing flow measurement requirements be it liquid, vapour or gas media.

Later in 2006, IA Flow Elements Private Limited was formed by forging relationships with overseas partners Trust Technical Services Co. and then with RJ Technical Resources, UAE. The company has seen considerable growth servicing UK, Middle East, North America, European and Far East markets. He successfully sold his shares in the business in 2019 and presently continues to be actively involved in operating the company and in guiding the team.

 He has been actively participating in all MITAA activities in various capacities including the role of President for two terms. Presently he guides as the PATRON of MITAA. 

He is very generous in helping the students. He was instrumental in getting the bio gas plant installed for MIT mess. He has silently helped so many needy students both for educational and medical assistance multiple times.    He and his wife Mrs. USHA BALAJI have been very active in getting the Foundation For Excellence Trust scholarship scheme benefitting hundreds of MIT students, which needs lot of coordination between the students and FFE. His daughter Ms. Anitashree Balaji is a Managing Director in the Carlyle Group of Companies, USA and she is also actively involved in the Fund Raising activities of FFE.

MITAA has the pleasure of honouring Mr. N. Raja of 35^th Batch Auto faculty, as the Outstanding Alumnus for the year 2020.

Mr N Raja did his B Tech in Automobile from MIT, Chennai in 1986. Later he did his MBA with Marketing as specialization from FMS, New Delhi. He excelled in his Masters with Gold Medal.

Mr Raja started his career with Tata Motors. He was in charge of North-East market and contributed highly to the market share improvement. Mr. Raja moved to Hyundai Motor India and then to Ford India. Mr Raja ensured one of the Best Profitable Period for Ford India.

Since 2013 to 2019 Mr Raja was associated with Toyota Kirloskar Motor as Deputy Managing Director. He helped TKM excel in various fields like profitability, new product launch, establish brand image, improved stakeholder relationships, customer satisfaction, satisfied and high morale employee team. As Chairman of Lexus Business group, he was responsible for the strategic planning and growth of Lexus business in India. During his period TKM was continuously rated as the Best in Customer Retention, Toyota was established as the Safety & Technology leader in India, and TKM was number 1 in Dealer Satisfaction study.

Mr Raja strongly believes in contributing to society and follows the principle of “Societies Full of Smiles”.  He is actively involved in Corporate Social Responsibilities in the areas of Education, Skill Development, Health &Hygiene, Toyota Safety Education Plan. He has been awarded with CSR excellence Awards in 2017, CSR Impact Award, Asia Responsible Entrepreneurship Award etc.

Currently, Mr Raja heads Toyota Financial Services India Limited as Managing Director & CEO. Also, he is the Executive Advisor to the Board of Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd. In addition to these, he holds various senior positions in the industry like Chairperson of ERG Group, SIAM etc.

Mr Raja is settled in Bangalore with wife. His daughter & son-in law are settled in US with his grandson. His son is pursuing his MS in computer Science in The University of Texas. Mr Raja enjoys travelling and reading. MITAA has the pleasure of honouring Mr. S. Narayanan of 31^st Batch Auto faculty, as the Outstanding Alumnus for the year 2019.

Mr. Narayanan did his B.Sc from Loyola and MBA from Case Western University, USA. After his initial tenure in M/S Imperial Clevite Inc., U.S.A, he has played a stellar role in taking Bimetal Bearings Ltd to a phenomenal height. He is the Whole time Director of Bimetal Bearings Ltd.

He has been instrumental in the introduction of Transfer system / Lean concept in Production Line, Large Diameter Auto Parts Production, Headed Product development and introduced Lead Free Products to Automobile OEMS. 

The JV with Daido Metal Co Japan has helped the company to be the largest manufacturer of polymer bushes in India., BBL has been commenced development of anode manufacturing machine for Li batteries.  BBL will be one of the few manufacturers of metal powders for additive manufacturing and 3 D printing in the country. He has taken the Turnover of the company to grow 4 times and is presently at US $ 30 million.

He is actively involved in a Vocational Training Centre for Deaf and Dumb Children along with Corporation School which is a model centre for other similar projects. He is associated with a Trust UYIR engaged in reducing road accidents through training & teaching, control and supervision and corporate involvement in monitoring the progress within the city.

He lives in Coimbatore. His wife Ms. Lakshmi, with an MS degree heads T.Stanes & Company, part of the Amalgamations group. His daughter Kalyani is doing her Masters at Warwick University UK.

MITAA has the pleasure of honouring Mr. K.V. Bhima Rao, 3^rd Batch of Electronics Faculty as the Outstanding Alumnus for the year 2018.

After his Bachelor’s degree Mr. Bhima Rao joined MIT for DMIT course in Electronics and graduated in 1954. He was first Lab. Engineer in Electronics Faculty in MIT till mid Sept. 1955 and moved to AIR in Broadcasting House, New Delhi and retired as Chief Engineer (SZ), AIR & DD, Madras in June 1991. He served in AIR Stations and HP Transmitters looking after their maintenance and in Planning & Development Unit before being posted in Staff Training Institute (Techincal), to train the techincal staff of both AIR and DD, on a long tenure with breaks for posting at North Zone Regional Office and Srinagar Station. He served both in Eastern Border and in Western Border states of Nagaland and Jammu & Kashmir.

He was awarded a European Broadcasting Union Fellowship and travelled to servel European countries and studied the training programmes for their Radio and Television Engg. and Tech. staff. He had represented AIR in Study Group 5 of the CCIR at ITU, in Geneva. This group addressed Propagation through non-ionized medium.

Post retirement, Mr. Bhima Rao is active in Broadcasting Engineering Society (I), Bangalore Center for which he was a founder member and secretary during its formative years. Mr. Bhima Rao was the President of Bangalore Chapter of MITAA for three terms and is presently its Patron keeping MITAA BC very active and vibrant. He associated himself during the formation of Parent Chapter of MITAA in 1966 and later he was active in Delhi Chapter. He and the first batch auto alumnus Mr. V. Gopalan, started the USA Chapter on 10.10.10., with its base in New Jersey. Mr. K. V. Bhima Rao now lives in Bangalore.

For 2016 MITAA has the unique distinction of choosing an alumnus of the very first batch and founder member of the MITAA, Dr. V. Nagendran as the Outstanding Alumnus.

He passed his Bachelor’s degree in 1962 majoring Mathematics at A.M. Jain College, Chennai. Later, he joined MIT for DMIT course in the year 1962. He took up Instrument Technology. Further he pursued M.B.A. at Madras University. He received Honorary Doctorate [D.Hons] from a reputed Sri Lankan University. He is a member of Institute of Engineers (M.I.E.)

He is well established,a successful entrepreneur and the Founder Chairman of NAGMAN INSTRUMENTS, a Chennai based company, which is 43 years old. He has been honored and awarded by many organization. To name a few “Distinguished Society Service” award by the ISA and “Global Achievers’ award for Industry development”. He has traveled far and wide around the Globe.

NAGMAN is a well-known name in the Industries for its world class Products with ISO/IEC 17025: 2005 Accreditation. NAGMAN INSTRUMENTS exports to over 83 countries and has good track record.

Dr. V. Nagendran lives in Chennai, his wife Mrs Indra Nagendran gives her full support for his successful business. His first daughter and son both Instrumentation Engineers assist him in his business while second daughter who is also an Instrumentation engineer settled in Australia with her family and third daughter employed with HCL, living with her family.
