The MIT Chromepet campus of Anna University, founded in 1949 by Sri C Rajam, is a unique Institution and carved a niche for itself in unconventional engineering courses like Aeronautical, Automobile, Electronics, Instrumentation, Production Tech, Rubber and Plastic Tech, Information Tech and Computer Science and Engineering.

MITAA has the pleasure of honoring Rear Admiral V Mohan Doss of Electronics faculty, an alumnus from the 35thbatch, as the Distinguished Alumnus for the year 2019.

Rear Admiral V Mohan Doss, is the Head of the Naval Aviation Material specialisation of the Indian Navy which is  Seventh Largest Navy in the world and presently  appointed as the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Air Materiel), at the Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Navy), New Delhi.   Prior to this he was the Additional Director General of Quality Assurance of Naval Systems at New Delhi.  In the Air Material Specialisation, rarely an officer is promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral. So, he is the Sixth Rear Admiral from the Air Materiel Specialisation in the history of 70 years of Indian Navy.

Born at Vridhachhalam from economically weak family background, studied in Tamil Medium at Government schools and Govt. Arts College, graduated from MIT in 1986, He was selected by the Indian Navy during the first year through Campus Selection Programme and his whole studies at MIT was sponsored by the Indian Navy. He has been a topper in studies and all his career related training courses. He did a PG level Specialisation Training Programme in ‘Marine Electrical, Electronics and Communication Engineering’ at the Naval College of Engineering, at Jamnagar. He holds ME in Electrical Communication Engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and  M. Phil in Defence and Strategic Studies from the University of Mumbai. He has been trained at GEC Marconi, in Scotland, UK for development of software and repair of Avionics using Automatic Test Equipment.

For his outstanding professional work he has been commended by both the Chief of the Naval Staff and Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief. For his remarkable and high order of meritorious performance and excellence, he was awarded the prestigious Vishist Seva Medal (VSM) by the President of India in 2014. He has been a noted academician as the Director of the Naval Institute of Aeronautical Technology at  Kochi, which is  Asia’s biggest Institute for Aeronautical Engineering.

He is actively involved in Green initiatives including industrial safety and waste management programmes.  He has personally adopted many destitute children for teaching them and encouraging them to excel in academics.

 He conducts regular training for  several  premier educational institutions and motivates the students for Start-up Ventures and Entrepreneurship.  He also conducted several workshops across the country to motivate the small and Medium Scale Industries for larger participation in defence production and R & D activities.

His wife Mrs. Chaya Mohan is a Chief Manager with State Bank of India at New Delhi. His daughter Ms. Sheena Mohan after Masters   works for Intel, USA. His son Siddharth Mohan works for Arista Networks, Bengaluru after Engineering at BITS Pilani.
